Grand Prix of indianapolis 2013

“Marc Marquez might think about buying real estate here in the US”

--- Bryan Harley, editor

Indy delivered another perfect weekend in what is emerging as the most reliable “good time” event on the calendar. Great weather, the usual charms of the city, and some exciting racing always makes this a fantastic round.

We got to share the city with many many thousands of rabid gamers of “GenCon” - which, apart from making hotel accommodation hard to find, was a source of great off-track amusement as we would share a pub with a party of Elves and Wizards...

Thursday Happy Hour at the JW Marriott was our introduction...

Friday several of us went to the track; where we enjoyed access to the paddock and visits to many teams and riders.

We were sponsoring American Moto2 wildcard team GPTech and their rider James Rispoli.  James was our guest speaker at our Friday evening opening dinner; and his dedication and enthusiasm for the sport left us all deeply impressed. After great food and drink, many of us went for a wander down the amazing Meridian Ave where they close several city blocks to 2 wheeled traffic only. All the show bikes were out!

Saturday was a lovely day at the track -- and finally after 6 years I got a chance to visit the Indianapolis Motor Museum! A glorious history of over a century of racing at this legendary circuit.  See photos from the museum here.

As usual we don’t report on race results here. The key thing was the James qualified; although at 29th not an ideal position.  An interesting side-note: they were running a bike they leased from Tech3; making this the first time a Tech3 Moto2 bike had raced outside of the Tech3 garage.  Their engineers were all over the GPTech garage sharing info and learning more about their own machine!  James will end up the race as the 3rd of three consecutive Tech3 bikes, but just 0.1 seconds from “factory” rider Louis Rossi! Almost embarrassing for Tech3!

In the evening we hit the brilliant indy Mile flat track race for a classic American sports night out!  We get access to the paddock and indeed we spend most of our time on the stage itself with many other GP riders about including Andrea Dovisioso, Ant West, and others.  Great fun!  The Singles competition was won by a woman Shanya Texter  - cool!

Great racing on a perfect Sunday, and we conclude with a visit to a microbrewery where apart from some great beers and food, we are joined by our sponsored rider Jakub Kornfeil who shares not only his moto racing career highlights, but reveals he is also the world champion motor board surfer! (admittedly a pretty small sport at present...!)

Just another perfect weekend in Indy!
