Mugello Chianti Excursion
4-7 July 2011

A small group of us took a few brilliant days to enjoy the wine, the scenery, the food and the incredible city of Siena.  The tour agenda:

Monday: A departing from the Florence hotel, we take leisurely drive through the Tuscan countryside. Lunch at the hilltop town of Grieve, and we end up at our rural hilltop villa & winery dating from Etruscan times. A wine tasting of the local vintage followed by a superb dinner ended a perfect day.

Tuesday: We spend the day in the amazing city of Siena, with a professional local tour guide taking us around and giving us an insight into its fascinating history. The famous Palio had just been run the week earlier, won by contrade Oca (the Goose) who earn the right to fly their flags all day... Dinner was in a fantastic trattoria in a nearby village. The kind of meal we live for...

Wednesday was a perfect day to do nothing an enjoy the Villa, the pool and top up on our wine supplies. We eventually made our way back to Florence and parted company.
